I peeked at Facebook today. Is that cheating?
A friend's husband is doing better from surgery and may go home soon. Another friend takes care of her mom and mom seems to be doing better today. I like to read my husband's political comments. Seems politics is calming down some. That is good.

New Routines
Without Facebook I am developing new routines. Instead of spending my time on Facebook posts and viewing videos and making comments I am going through old files and shredding what I don't need anymore.
I have put off and put off organizing my saved articles and playbills and theater reviews, brochures from trips that we've taken into a scrapbook. I have gone through half a box so far and now they have their own home that will be easy to pack when we move out of California.
I have even gone to bed earlier a few nights this week. That is a healthy routine to develop and make into a habit.

Boredom
Do you use Facebook for something to do when you are bored? Facebook can be a great tool to use to fight boredom. Pass the time chatting with friends, posting pictures, news articles, videos, recipes, pictures of what you're eating.
Without Facebook you have to be more creative about what you're doing. How do you spend your time? Is this new found time to be filled with de-cluttering a room? Practicing a musical instrument? Walking or other exercise?
It is a sense of freedom, lightness, rebellion. What would you do with more time?

Facebook Withdrawal!
So my first withdrawal symptom came on Sunday! I am not a week into this challenge!
I was so excited about the Falcons winning against the Green Bay Packers that I wanted to share it with all my Facebook friends, but I could not and did not do it!
I am saving some photos taken that I also wanted to share, but I am standing firm! I have not posted.
I am glad to say that a few friends have contacted me on the private messenger and one has even said to call her! Imagine that. A high school friend who just wants to talk!

Day Two Sunday Morning January 22, 2017
I am on a quest this year to simplify my life, uncluttered my home, and to own less stuff. Taking this challenge to abstain from Facebook for a month is part of that.
I live in Southern California where it is just 9:10AM. I have already fought off an urge to log into Facebook. I am beginning to realize how much a part of the daily routine it was.
I am using this blog as a way to fill the void. A great blog I read every day is called Becoming Minimalist by Joshua Becker.
Are there other people out there trying to unplug? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Taking Time Off From Facebook Challenge
Could you do it for just a month? I have thought about doing this challenge since the beginning of the year. So today I announced on my Facebook page that I would be taking a month off and I signed out. I told friends and family if they wanted to stay in contact with me to use the private messenger.
Reasons for going off the grid: 1. politics mostly. I am sick of it.
2. A desire to declutter and de-stress my life.
3. It's not fun anymore.
If you have taken time off from Facebook and other social media I'd love to hear from you. Particularly about what you have discovered and how the journey has been going.
